What to do and see in Malta
There is so much to do and see in Malta when you book with SunChateaux! You’ll explore 7000 years of history yet live passionately in the present. You’ll span the millennia with an astonishing array of things to discover. And wherever you go, the Island’s scenery and architecture provides a spectacular backdrop. The colours are striking – honey-coloured stone against the deepest of Mediterranean blues.
Malta has often been described as one big open-air museum with stunning architecture and heritage sites, and the fabulous Baroque fortress city of Valletta – its capital. This cosmopolitan capital city is busy by day and atmospheric by night. The endless narrow streets boast some of Europe’s finest art works alongside quaint shops and bustling cafés, whilst the main streets are home to more familiar high street brands. The best way to explore is on foot, and once you’ve taken in the back streets and the main street, be sure to take the Valletta Commonwealth Walkway, inaugurated by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2015. The walk links significant sites of heritage and culture within the city, and is marked with 20 bronze markers along the route to guide you.
Take a boat tour of the famous Grand Harbour or simply soak up the sun on the terrace of one of the lovely restaurants overlooking the water, where the Great Seige of 1565 took place when the Knights of St John held off the invading Ottoman Turks.
Malta’s first citadel capital “Mdina” is well worth visiting with its intricate network of cobbled streets filled with ancestral homes which are still inhabited with Malta’s noblest families. Then take a stroll on to Bastion Square, where you can enjoy panoramic views over the island.
Whether it’s history, entertainment, diving, mountain biking, hiking, sailing or shopping that interests you, Malta has it all. Make your booking with SunChateaux today!
